Leicester Pride Press release
"Festival Entertainment - Meet the world on Victoria Park"

Leicester Pride and Sounding Out have teamed-up with Farside Music to give you an eclectic mix of local musicians and performers bringing the world to Victoria Park.

Leicester Pride and Sounding Out will bring together the best in local Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual talent, while Farside Music have a wide range of World music performers.

This year is different from all previous years at the Festival, and the biggest change is for YOU the performers! We are offering open mic slots to local performers to do their thing for a gay/mixed friendly audience.

This is the first time Leicester Pride has been done in this format and we are really excited about it. What it means for performers is that you are guaranteed a place to play on Pride day (within reason!) and for the audience it means a chance to see a diverse range of rock bands, drumming, comedy, drag, singer song-writers, spoken word, Samba, cabaret, drama pieces or whatever the community creates for and on the day!

We provide the PA, staging and sound tech and comperes. So, what we need is performers to turn up and play. We will be booking a handful of acts beforehand and the rest is up to you. It would be helpful to know beforehand if you are planning to come and perform, so email us with any questions or to let us know.

The Stage Line-up will include:

Kicktin are a three piece rock funk pop punk phenomenon! Their sounds are comparable to a variety of artists such as Gwen Stefani/No Doubt, The Distillers and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as being a step away from the norm. web site

Firebrand stage stomping, face pulling, powerchord-avoiding, instrumentally accomplished three piece, ripping up the girl-band rule book and creashing through genres like a musical wrecking ball. web site

The Bitter Lemonz - fabulous rock and rolling lesbian band from Birmingham. web site

John Anthony - local singer/songwriter

Paula Driver

African Drumers

She has her own brand of twisted tunes including perverse parodies of well-loved songs from Elvis to Andy Williams and Mozart arias.“A flamboyant hostess... she's never had anything but squeals of delight from her audience. Terrifyingly terrific!” The Pink Paper Five piece Leicester band Yardoosh will round off the night with a cracking set of cover songs ranging from the 60's to late 90's including Foxey Lady, Knock on wood, Give me some lovin' and Stupid Girl.
