Gay Pride The last Leicester Pride 2006 took place on Saturday 24th June 2006
Over 10,000 people enjoyed this warm, summer
festival of celebration with Leicester's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual
and Transgendered community.
Leicester Pride 2007 was cancelled due to shortage of funds and support. There are no known plans for a gay and lesbian festival in Leicester in 2008. But if that changes, details will appear on this web site.
A successful event ... a great party ...
a happy celebration
Warm dry weather, a well organised event that ran smoothly,
lots of people to see and to meet, music, live entertainment,
a colourful carnival Parade, Leicester Pride offered a lot for
the people of Leicester.

One fabulous weekend of parties
Apart from local residents, Pride was attended by people from
all over the UK. Many stayed over night in our local hotels,
spent money in our local shops, visited bars, clubs and venues
... contributed to the economy of the city.
A free
public festival costs a lot of money to organise and stage but
visitors bring revenue into the city and the event contributes
to the life and diversity of Leicester.
Lord Mayor of Leicester condemns homophobia
Councillor Paul Westley, Lord Mayor of Leicester, officially
opened the Leicester Pride Festival. In his address of welcome
on behalf of the people of Leicester, Cllr Westley condemned
homophobia. He called on those who have homophobic attitudes
to keep quiet and not to set out to offend gay and lesbian members
of the community.
Gay people, he said, were an established part of Leicester's
diverse cultural heritage and have secured equal rights with
other groups of people. There is no place in modern society
for homophobic atittudes, which deprive gay people of the rights
they have secured under the law.
Volunteers did a great job!
Over 100 people worked hard on Saturday
to make the event happen. It was well
organised and ran smoothly, thanks
to the very strenuous efforts of the
volunteer team. To everyone who helped
on Saturday a HUGE THANK YOU - go to our Leicester Volunteers page.
