In the on-going fight for equality, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people often find themselves having to work to convince their family and heterosexual friends, not to mention their work colleagues, clergy, and the lawmakers of their nation, that their relationships are equally as resilient and healthy as those of heterosexual couples. In fact, some studies have suggested that they can, in many ways, actually be healthier. A study at Berkeley University in California found that homosexual couples were better equipped to deal with conflict in relationship, and were actually less hostile and controlling when faced with disagreements and arguments. Helplines and support groups for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people are available.
